Saw no shows.
Did a second recording of a song for someone.
Packed my bags.
Dropped the CD off.
Drove home.
Bye Edinburgh!
I could probably elucidate on one small part of this. Earlier in the festival, one of the techies at one of the venues had asked me to put a tune to his lyrics. The original aim was to have a band play this song at their last gig. However, this aim did not occur. My original demo had me singing roughly the right tune with a sax solo inserted by me going "do do do". Given that the band were not going to play this song, the fellow was going to have to find some other way to present his message. The message in question was to a young lady with whom a relationship had been formed during the festival. The idea was to give her something to remember him by (as far as I can tell). He suggested just giving her the CD. I baulked at this suggestion, knowing how bad the recording in question was.
Therefore, I agreed to re-record the song, without the instrumental break and with a more tuneful rendition of its chorus. This I did.
I can say, in retrospect, that the song is not all that good. The tune is not
terrible and the lyrics are better than some I've heard. However, the message is
a bit dodgy and there's something of a mixed metaphor in the last verse. I pray
that this song doesn't become "their song". I pray more than it does not form
the backdrop to some sort of passionate final night for them... yuck. My voice
is probably a passion killer anyway! Still, it is always nice to do something
for someone else and this I did for the gentleman in question. I hope it all
works out well for them.
